Building software from zero by understanding problems
IONYX / 2021
I led a digital transformation project that would significantly increase the capacity and enable a leading dating agency to expand as a business.
Overview
A dating agency called Ideal Introductions approached us as they required a custom web application to support their expanding business.
“We’re unable to take on more clients due to our manual processes and systems.”
– CEO of Ideal Introductions
Discover
Understanding the current process
I conducted interviews to map out the entire business process and tech eco-system from inception.
Define
Identifying pain points
The team’s capacity constraints frequently stemmed from insufficient system integration and a heavy reliance on manual tasks throughout their workflow.
Define
Identifying goals
I identified and prioritised the goals and functionality for the digital transformation solution.
Throughout the project we ensured each decision we make reflects these goals.
Ideate
Information architecture
I defined the information architecture of how enquiries, leads and members will be managed.
Ideate
Future state process flows
I created process flows detailing each user group’s primary role at each stage of the journey and tech integrations.
Refine
Usability testing
I built a low-fi prototype and collaborated with engineering to define feasibility. I conducted user testing with the Ideal Introductions to gather feedback.
Refine
User journeys and release plan
I created user journeys for 23 scenarios to ensure user and business goals are achieved.
We gathered development time, reviewed each function and prioritised to define the MVP and release plan.
Final designs
I prepared the designs for development handover and conducted Quality Assurance and User Acceptance Testing.
Impact
From this work, I saw the following outcomes:
Applications used
Miro for user flows and business process mapping
Sketch for wireframes and UI explorations
Invision for sharing with stakeholders and user testing prototypes
Microsoft Powerpoint and Excel to present and document analysis’ and solutions
